El Salvador - Rural Microfinance
The Tuluni Team conducted the onsite Due Diligence of one of the largest MFI in El Salvador. The MFI is a savings and loans cooperative focused on low income borrowers in rural communities and women borrowers. It provides agricultural loans to help small scale farmers and working capital loans for micro entrepreneurs. Borrowers in the portfolio do not have access to credit from other banks. The MFI promotes and trains farmers to protect the environment and it provides financial education. The MFI's lending portfolio is primarily allocated to microbusiness, housing improvement and agriculture. The MFI also provides green loans and trainings for green practices in rural communities. The MFI has a presence across the 14 departments of the country, and it is expanding their services deeper into rural regions.
